Sunday the Bulls turned down the Heat. One of the ways they were able to defeat the Bulls was through rebounding. Anyone who knows the game of basketball knows rebounding is a core fundamental of the game and a key to success. Getting and fighting for position are keys to rebounding well. Discipline leads to position and position leads to possession and progress.
Finding our position spiritually is often a key to possession of God's promises and progress as a follower of Jesus. We see examples in scripture of people on their faces praying or worshipping. Jesus himself did this: Matthew 26:39 NIV Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
Now that is spiritual position, on your face praying. I have found some of the most powerful mornings of prayer and reading have come when I am on the floor (a position of surrender). This morning was not an exception following a Sunday when I challenged a congregation to find a position of surrender in their quiet time.
The Bulls are finding a strategic advantage in professional basketball by practicing the fundamentals, discipline and finding position. So may it be with our walk with Jesus. May we practice the fundamentals of reading the Bible, praying and worshiping Him and may we find a position that we can meet with him in a powerful way. May our quiet times be transformational and with God leading us may we progress in triumph or suffering.
Make it a great night!
